Our Missions

As a church, we have determined that 5% of our revenue will be spent on mission support. Each year members of the congregation nominate organizations and at our annual meeting, we vote on which organizations we will support for the coming year. Our missions criteria is as follows:

Missions Selection Criteria

1. All mission organizations or missionaries must have a statement that is compatible with Good Shepherd Church Statement of Belief.

2. Each mission organization should be affiliated with the Canadian Council of Christian Charities or a Board of Reference to verify their financial credibility as Christian Stewards of monies entrusted to them.

3. Any person or organization that is supported must be committed to reaching people with the gospel of Jesus Christ and making disciples of them – Matt. 28:19-20

4. Where Good Shepherd Church chooses to do missions work or seeks to form a missionary body (e.g. a Missions Trip organized by Good Shepherd Church) and thus seeks to secure funding in the budget similar to that of which would be given to a mission (which meets the above qualified mission criteria), then the Board of Elders assume the fiscal and spiritual/theological stewardship of mission/mission work, and by this means fulfills the above three criteria for a supporting mission.

Below are the missions that we are supporting for 2021-2024

Bridges for Peace

Bridges For Peace is a Jerusalem-based, Bible-believing Christian organization supporting Israel and building relationships between Christians and Jews worldwide through education and practical deeds expressing God’s love and mercy. It is their desire to see Christians and Jews working side by side for better understanding and a more secure Israel. Founded in 1976, Bridges for Peace seeks to be a ministry of hope and reconciliation. Through programs both in Israel and worldwide, they are giving Christians the opportunity to actively express their biblical responsibility before God to be faithful to Israel and the Jewish community.

Ken & Nancy in NA

Ken and Nancy direct many workers who faithfully bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to many people who have not heard the Gospel. NA is a part of the world that is historically resistant to Christianity.  Across this region it is illegal to convert people from Islam. Their team witnesses to the lost with the hope of Christ and they encourage persecuted followers who desire discipleship and fellowship.

Pray for them as they work all for the glory of God. They often use a Business as Mission format and partner with Christian organizations and workers already at work in the places they serve.  They seek to disciple people, to send them out, to start new ministry works, to work alongside people, to preach the Gospel, to seek those who do not know the Lord.

Good Shepherd Church Local Mission

Through our visioning, we have discerned a need to be more effective in service and outreach in the community, and more practical in responding as Family for each other. In order to respond well (and quickly) to these needs, we need more funding, and more ‘readily accessible’ funding than we currently get through occasional local monthly benevolent offerings. If Local Mission can be seen as one of our ‘missions’ that we support, we can make a stronger impact as a ‘Light on the Eastern Shore’

Spiritual Rock Congregational Church. NFLD

Spiritual Rock is a Mission church and part of the Congregational Christian Churches in Canada pastored by Rev. Zita MacCallum, with help from her daughter,  Trudy. Most of her ministry is with those who have suffered from some sort of addiction. God has placed a burden and a love for the people who join in worship each week at her church in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Part of her ministry includes the following:
  • Prayer meetings every Wed,
  • Bible Study every Friday with good turnout
  • Open Door Services are held in the summertime and we have coffee and sandwiches for the community. There is a very good response. We go out to the parks in the summertime for a time of praise and worship
  • Soup Day two or three times a year for the community
We, at Good Shepherd, collect soaps, shampoos, etc. and send them to Rev. Zita to distribute as she sees the need. As one of our missions, this church receives monthly financial help and this is just another way in which we can support the ministry.
